چکیده

A Cerebral Arteriovenous Malformation is an abnormal connection between arteries and veins. Normally the blood flows from arteries to veins through capillary bed. But patient having AVM, the capillary bed will be absent. The veins cannot handle the pressure of blood flowing from arteries to veins and it ruptures. The success of treatment by embolization in interventional Neuroradiolgy is highly dependent on the accuracy of the vessels visualization. In this paper, we have done segmentation of NIDUS using 3DRA for cerebral patients, so that the doctors can analyze and decide the mode of treatment. This method consists in Preprocessing step of image enhancement, Morphological operations, clustering are used to separate vessel pixels from background and artery pixels from vein pixels that will help to find path for track the blood flow.

Angiographic follow-up of large cerebral AVMs incompletely embolized with isobutyl-2-cyanoacrylate.

This study evaluated the long-term angiographic results in large cerebral arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) partially embolized with isobutyl-2-cyanoacrylate. Preembolization, immediate postembolization, and long-term follow-up angiograms were performed in 30 large, partially embolized brain AVMs. Particular attention was paid to the relative size of the residual AVM nidus and the embolized ar...

Experimental radiosurgery simulations using a theoretical model of cerebral arteriovenous malformations.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE A novel biomathematical arteriovenous malformation (AVM) model based on electric network analysis was used to investigate theoretically the potential role of intranidal hemodynamic perturbations in elevating the risk of rupture after simulated brain AVM radiosurgery. METHODS The effects of radiation on 28 interconnected plexiform and fistulous AVM nidus vessels were sim...

Long term effects of Gamma knife Radiosurgery for treatment of cerebral arteriovenous malformations

Abstract Background: The Gamma Knife Radiosurgery (GKR) is an established management option for Cerebral Ar-teriovenous Malformations (AVMS). Therapeutic benefits of radiosurgery for arteriovenous malformations are complete obliteration of nidus with minimal neurological deficit. Methods: Radiosurgery was performed between February 2003 and April 2010 at Kamraniye day clinic, Teh-ran, Iran, us...

Brain Edema after Repeat Gamma Knife Radiosurgery for a Large Arteriovenous Malformation: A Case Report

Brain edema due to venous thrombosis following stereotactic radiosurgery for a cerebral arteriovenous malformation (AVM) has rarely been reported. We report a patient with a large AVM in the eloquent area, and brain edema developed in this area after repeat Gamma knife stereotactic radiosurgery (GKRS). An 18-year-old female presented with a 4-year-history of persistent headache. Magnetic resona...

Diagnostic value of cerebral perfusion scintigraphy in evaluation of intracranial arteriovenous malformations--preliminary report.

BACKGROUND Arteriovenous malformations (AVM) markedly alter the distribution of the regional cerebral blood flow, as they consist of abnormal arteries and veins with no resistance vessels between them. The aim of this study was to the evaluate diagnostic utility of cerebral perfusion scintigraphy (dynamic phase and SPECT) in patients with AVM. MATERIAL AND METHODS Nineteen patients were exami...
